SRG 2019 Beginners Program

Ever wanted to run, but never been a runner?

Our Beginners Program has turned non-runners into runners through positive support, encouragement, structure and endless motivation.

2018 was a very successful year for our entry level 'Couch to 10km' and '10km to 21.1km' structured development programs.

We are so incredibly proud of our beginner runners and the unbelievable achievements they have accomplished.

The SRG Beginner Program
is back in 2019!

SRG is running three beginner programs in 2019, starting with a 0 to 10km program in January, leading up to Brisbane’s Great South Run, a 10 to half marathon leading up to Gold Coast Marathon and a 0 to 15 km leading up to Gold Coast 50 later in the year.

The first program will start Monday 21 January 2019 with an info session/ meet and greet on Sunday 13 Jan 2019. This will be a 10-week program, suitable for anyone, from people who have not run before, to those looking to improve and continue developing. This program will cover the basics of running technique and form, help to build fitness, meet like-minded people and challenge yourself. At the completion of this program we encourage you to participate in the Great South Run’s 10 km event, which is the weekend after the program finishes.

The second 10-week block will be a 10 km to half marathon program starting on Monday 22 April. This will be a good opportunity for those who have just completed the 10 km, to progress to a half marathon. This program will build on the previous 0 – 10 km plan and take a very similar structure. You will continue to build your fitness, technique and experience as a runner. This training program will gear towards the Gold Coast Marathon, which is one of SRG’s biggest events of the year. Last year we were the 3rd biggest team and we hope to have even greater participation in 2019.

The third session will differ from previous years, with a 0 – 15 km training plan over a longer time with the aim of completing the 15km run at the Gold Coast 50 event in December. The training will start on Monday 5 August. This will be approximately an 18-week plan, taking a little bit longer, progressing towards the 15 km run. The exact time frame of this program will be confirmed once the dates for Gold Coast 50 in 2019 are released. This program has been adjusted after feedback from previous beginners’ group.

The program will be run on Monday and Wednesday’s, both 5am and 7pm sessions.

Participants are encouraged to come to the meet and greet prior to the start of each plan. These sessions will provide information about SRG as a group, introduce you to the beginner run leaders, SRG committee, our sponsors and highlight benefits of being a financial member.

If you have been looking at SRG and are not sure, the SRG Committee encourages you to give this a try. We are a volunteer led incorporated organisation and all sessions are free, so what do you have to lose?
